Welcome to ALGGEN's Home Page

ALGGEN is the acronym for the Algorithmics and Genetics Group, part of the ALBCOM Research Group in the Computer Science Department of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (BarcelonaTech).

ALGGEN is dedicated to research and teaching in the area of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics and this site is the virtual laboratory that contains the bioinformatic tools designed by the group. This tools are developed jointly in collaboration with "in lab" research groups in genetics of other centers.

The main projects are:

SatDB: a data base of satellites in genome

SATFIND: a web-based tool for satellites search in a given genome

M-GCAT: interactive comparative genomics tool well suited for quickly generating multiple genome comparisons and alignment frameworks among closely related bacterial species.

PROMO: virtual laboratory for the identification of putative transcription factor binding sites (TFBS) in DNA sequences from a species or groups of species

The supervisor of this site is Dr. Xavier Messeguer. This site is supported by Project Sweet tools TIN 2010-21062-C02-01 del MEC/MICINN.

Benvingut a la pàgina d'ALGGEN

ALGGEN és l'acrònim del grup d'Algorísmica i Genètica, que forma part del Grup ALBCOM dins del Departament de Ciències de la Computació de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). ALGGEN es dedica a la recerca i la docència dins de l'àmbit de la Bioinformàtica o Biologia Computacional.

En aquest lloc web s'hi han instal.lat els programes relacionats amb la recerca i docència en bioinformàtica que desenvolupa el grup d'Algorísmica i Genètica.

La docéncia es desenvolupa a l'assignatura "Tècniques i eines bioinformàtiques" dins del Master de Ingenyeria Informàtica

La recerca es desenvolupa en colaboració directe amb investigadors en genètica molecular.
